MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Multiple injuries were reported after a school bus was involved in a serious crash in Mount Olive Thursday morning.
The crash took place at around 10:30 a.m. on I-80 westbound near Exit 25 and Route 206.
A dump truck and a school bus collided, according to Mount Olive Mayor Robert Greenbaum.
The body of the bus came completely off its chassis. The chassis is lying across several lanes of traffic, the rest of the bus is resting on its side in the median of I-80.
The school bus was carrying students from Paramus Middle School who were on a field trip to Waterloo Village.

Numerous people could be seen gathered at the median, along with many emergency responders.
The injured were being rushed to at least two area hospitals.
Crash investigation on Route 80 by mile marker 25. Route 80 closed both directions. Westbound traffic being diverted at exit 26. Expect heavy traffic and delays on Route 46.

Traffic was initially shut down on I-80 in both directions near the site of the accident. Some eastbound lanes reopened about an hour later, although the westbound lanes remained closed. Click here to check current traffic conditions.
UPDATE- On I-80 eastbound, right and center lanes reopened near Exit 25 – Rte. 206 Mount Olive. I-80 westbound remains closed, motorists advised to use alternate routes. Use caution, expect delays.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it was gathering information on the crash.
