Algerian Diaspora Awaits NY-Algiers Flight Resumption

The Algerian diaspora in the USA will no longer have to stop at other airports to reach the country. From now on, they will be able to do so via a direct flight New York – Algiers.
Announced in June 2022 by the Head of State Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the inauguration of the 53rd edition of the Algiers International Fair, this direct line has always been “requested”, not only by the Algerian community established in USA, but also by Americans.
According to The US Ambassador to Algeria
According to the US ambassador to Algeria, Mrs. Elizabeth Moore Aubin, its launch would only be a matter of time. It would follow an agreement which “could be concluded this year between the two countries”.
“In terms of progress on this, I will say that we are in negotiations. I specify that the technical negotiations are finished and I hope that we will reach an agreement very soon, this very year”, indeed affirmed the diplomat in an interview with the Algerian press agency.
This direct flight, she continued, “will completely change the Algerian-American relationship”. “From an economic point of view, if we have a regular flight, this will allow better movement of goods, but also of people,” says Ms. Moore again.
For the American diplomat, this “will also make it possible to strengthen and deepen the ties between the two peoples”. “Also, for Algeria, which is seeking a seat on the United Nations Security Council, this flight will be the direct route to the UN,” she explained.
This is not the first time that the possibility of opening a direct New York – Algiers line has been mentioned. Indeed, in a message published this Sunday, November 13 on social networks, the US ambassador to Algeria called for the opening of a direct airline between the two cities. “The choice of New York is dictated by the fact that the majority of the Algerian community in the United States is concentrated on the northern part of the east coast of the country”, one explains.
In May 2022, Amine Andaloussi, spokesperson for Air Algérie, which is preparing to strengthen its fleet by acquiring 15 new aircraft, also assured in a statement to the Gate7 site that the national company was ready to provide new services to France and should also launch new routes to North America and Africa1.
